Guatemala's children suffer from the highest rate of chronic malnutrition in all of Latin America. Sixty-eight percent of
indigenous women are illiterate. The average indigenous woman gives birth to eight children. Pneumonia is the leading cause of
death in children under the age of five. Three-quarters of all rural residents fall below
the poverty line.

placing great emphasis on sustainability, we first invest in the people and teach them how to work in groups to realize results. Focusing
on health and education, we assist them to develop, implement and monitor their own projects while building their capacity to make
long-term changes. They learn skills and strategies to achieve healthy families, well-functioning communities, and hope for a brighter

function is to raise and collect funds to support the mission in Guatemala.

Its seven staff members have the responsibility
to implement and oversee all projects supported by People for Guatemala, Inc.
